Impreza WRX 1st Generation "GC chassis" (1992-2000)
The
Subaru WRX was launched in 1992 in Japan, then shortly afterward
in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. With its turbocharged
2.0L flat-4 Boxer engine and 4WD, the WRX soon caught the
attention of motoring journalists and car enthusiasts alike
world wide, with its blistering performance and relatively
low price tag. The Subaru Impreza WRX is available as a
sedan or hatchback.

The Subaru
WRX made its debut in November 1992 and immediately established
itself as a true drivers car and cult classic. The 1992 Subaru
WRX came with 176.5 kW; 236.7 hp and a viscous coupling center
differential and viscous type rear LSD. The WRX represented serious
bang for buck challenging performance figures of much more expensive

1993
Subaru Impreza WRX

The 1993 Subaru
WRX was launched in October, 1993. Not much changed from the previous
model, power remained the same, rear rotors were substituted from
ventilated disk to solid disk and the overall weight increased
by 66lb (30kg ). The hatchback WRX version was also first produced
in 1993, with (162 kW; 217 hp). Produced from 10/1993 through

1994
Subaru Impreza WRX

The
1994 Subaru WRX produced in November 1994, had its power increased
to (191.2 kW; 256.4 hp) at 6500 rpm. Other improvements were the
wheel size was increased to 16 inches and the brakes were both
changed to ventilated disk brakes. The 1994 WRX also had its weight
dropped to 1,230 kg (2,712 lb). Produced
from 9/1994 through 9/1996. Chassis

The 1996 Subaru
WRX was given a styling update in September 1996. It also recieved
an upgrade in power to (205.9 kW; 276.2 hp) at 6500 rpm. Produced

1998
Subaru Impreza WRX
|
The 1998 Subaru
WRX was first produced in September of that year, the only changes
from the previous model was a small increase in torque from 242
lb ft to 250 lb ft at 4000 rpm. The 1998 Subaru WRX also it gained
some weight now 2800 lb. Produced from 9/1998 through 9/1999.

1999
Subaru Impreza WRX

The last in
the line of first generation Subaru Impreza WRX's was launched
on September 1999. Mechanically the same as the previous model
the only changes to feature were new alloy wheels, remote central
locking, color-coded mirrors and door handles, intermittent wipers
with a timer and map lights. Produced from 9/1999 through 9/2000.
